Child support for period that occured before filing child support order

Does anyone know if it is possible to go after child support for a period of time that one parent would have been obligated to pay if an order had been filed? Can a person go back five years to calculate and awarded what should have been paid by the absentee parent before the order was filed?

In paternity cases yes, but in divorce , so long as you were married at the time no.  The reason is that their is a presumption that the child was supported during the marriage. There is also a presumption that the person you

were married to is the father.  You can't go back.

In paternity cases they do go after back support in such cases.
