I was told I can't get one if I "consumate the marriage". We did not actually do this but we lived together shortly for a few months. We both want the anullment as opposed to divorce as it looks better than to continually state "divorced" i.e used baggage.
can i get it and how?
yes, i do them all the time. You can complete an annulment in Washington state with more ease than many people, and even some attorneys, assume. The important part is that it is an agreed set of circumstances as between the parties and that it constitutes one of the legal grounds for an annulment (such as religious grounds, or later refusal regarding a "fundamental of marriage" such as willingness to have children). Some lawyers have limited divorce experience, or they only practice in one county in washington state. There are 39 counties in Washington state. The filing and other requirements vary and even lawyers who practice some divorce and family law usually stay in their own county or neighboring counties if only because they don't wish to drive that far to represent clients in distant courts. Furhermore, there is more than one appelate division. And judges and commissioners have their own opinions of the law which can vary from county to county. You can let one lawyers opinion influence your future legal status, or you can get a second opinion.
