people have said you can be put in jail.  but that makes genius sense b/c i am alot of use to her (and it is her lifestyle i am enhancing not really his) when i am sitting in jail.

i don't actually have the money right now and it was set to high and i lost my job.  what are the chances i will be put in jail?

very low but if you continue to refuse, and the court believes that you have assets, or you refuse to submit proof you are searching for work, or lie about same, you will in fact be put in jail.  it takes a while to get to that point though.....

if you are truly absolutely broke you don't have what is called under most states and Washington also: "present ability and unwillingness" to pay.  you have to have both.

Sometimes what occurs is the local Family Support section of the Prosecutors office will initiate contempt proceedings and the judge will then enter a plan for compliance.  That plan often includes submitting to the Court file name address, phone and contact inforamtion from employers where you have submitted resumes/applications.  Say, 5 per month minimum.  If you are not truly in fact doing that and you file it with the court you have just committed perjury. and of course if you dont' in fact go out and look for work as the judge has told you to, in washington state, as in most, you stand a good chance of doing a short jail term.

I have seen that on the King, Pierce, and Snohomish county benches.
